The Ugly Cucumber is our very own product line of preserves and jams using only locally grown Ugly Fruits & Vegies.

The Southern Downs is already famous for our local produce but we want to support our farmers by buying the produce that supermarkets won’t buy.

Ugly fruit and vegetables are misshapen or unusual looking produce that is most often destroyed. Ugly fruit and vegetables are rejected by supermarkets and traditionally consumers.

This is changing however as people are becoming more aware of how much we waste. Up to 40 per cent of fruit or vegetable crops never make it on to plates because they are ‘ugly’.

We partner with local produce buyers and growers to sell this cosmetically-challenged but perfectly edible and nutritious local produce.

This ambition is even more important during this time of drought – to support our farmers as well as to help prevent food shortages.

The other advantage of ugly fruit and vegies is that the prices are usually cheaper, making it easier to access and prepare nutritious meals.
